volcano

the horizon yearns
a violent end.
to the west the glasshouse
lies in pieces, and the echoes
tell what comes next

the sky puts on
its plume of fire,
grows wings it didn’t want,
and lifts into the night

the mountain weeps –
slow tears slither down its face
and silence the summer
on their way

down, down,
down,
no one left
to watch
